TATTOOS & PORTO

Today I’m going to write a bit about tattoos and my city, Porto (in Portugal).

As I’m born, raised and very proud of my own city, I also like to see it well represented even when we’re talking about tattoos.

A lot of tattoo travelers like to get a tattoo related with the city as a souvenir. Most part of the times they go for the most cliche/popular designs: Porto’s wine cups, cans of sardines, tiles, etc. What if I tell you that you have much more themes and icons to explore about Porto? That’s what I’m going to show you today.

Have you heard that one of the symbols of Porto is a dragon? How cool is that?
And it’s part of the city crest since 1837. It’s represented also in some statues, for example the one called “Soldado Porto” (Porto’s Soldier) that have a dragon right on the top of his helmet.

The dragon from the crest, is holding a banner with the word “Invicta“. Do you know that “Invicta” means invincible is also the nickname of the city of Porto? That nickname came from the 19th century, during the civil war. Porto was never conquered and also survived a siege for more than a year.

So, why not get a traditional dragon tattoo while in Porto?

If you already visited Porto, I’m sure you saw how beautiful is the view from the Douro’s river with the unique “Rabelo” boats (the wooden cargo boats that were used to transport people and goods along the river) and of course the magestic D. Luís I bridge. That view and the brigde are also iconic of our city and can also be translated into a really cool tattoo.

I hope you liked this article! If you ever visit Porto and want a tattoo related with this beautiful city, feel free to book your tattoo here or contact me on my social networks!
